🦥 A few things I found this week — chill and give these a read:
Man, the price gap for a slice of bud across the country right now is absolutely wild. I was just looking at how an eighth in Washington is averaging fifteen bucks, while patients in Kentucky are getting hit with fifty-two dollars for the exact same amount [See the full article on High Times](https://hightimes.com/dispensaries/weed-prices-by-state-august-2026/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=weed-prices-by-state-august-2026). It’s easy to get mad and think medical patients are just getting straight-up gouged, but when you actually weight the data by how much volume each state is moving, that massive gap basically vanishes to a single cent. As a grower, I always keep an eye on these numbers, and it's crazy to see how much local supply chains and state-level volume dictate what we actually pay at the counter.
Speaking of how dispensaries run their business, there's some crazy data out there on how the big chains are absolutely squeezing out the indie shops. The corporate chains are pulling in twice the wholesale discounts of the little guys and restocking their shelves every two weeks, while the independent shops are waiting twenty-four days between orders and just restocking the exact same eight SKUs every single time [See the full article on High Times](https://hightimes.com/dispensaries/chain-vs-independent-dispensaries-what-shoppers-prefer/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=chain-vs-independent-dispensaries-what-shoppers-prefer). I always try to support the independent shops because that's where the culture lives, but man, seeing those numbers makes you realize just how hard the deck is stacked against the local guys trying to keep fresh, diverse flower on the shelves.
